Position Summary & Purpose:       

The Controller is a critical role at Lehman’s, responsible for the accounting operations of this complex, medium sized company.  He/she sets the standards by which the accounting team and the rest of the organization abide to insure accurate and timely financial information for all key stakeholders. 

Due to the complexity of our business, the Controller must be quick on their feet and able to multi-task extremely well.  Be it the creation of new accounting processes and procedures, creating new and insightful financial reports, working with department leaders on budgeting and forecasting projects, or actually closing the books; the Controller at Lehman’s needs to embrace wearing multiple hats and adding value in many ways.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Leadership / People Management – Be an energizing and inspiring leader to the Accounting team which currently consists of the Controller plus 2.5 people.
  • Accounting Management – Full knowledge of GAAP principles.  Full accountability for accurate and efficient management of Accounts Payables, Accounts Receivables, Bank Reconciliations, etc.  Must have proper controls in place over all functions.
  • Financial Reporting and Interpretation – Responsible for all aspects of financial reporting.  After closing the books, must prepare and interpret monthly financial statements for the organization.  Identify key financial trends and present them to those responsible in order to work with them to accelerate growth or rectify issues.
  • Annual Budget and Monthly Forecast – Owns the financial budgeting and forecasting process across the organization
  • Tax Management and Compliance – Insure the corporation follows all applicable tax codes (Ohio Sales Tax, Use Tax, CAT, Nexus issues, etc.).  Preparation of year end reports with external accounting firm for tax filing. 
  • Vendor/ Partner Management – Working with and managing relationships with many third parties on behalf of the corporation.  Contract negotiations included as well. 
  • 401K Plan Administrator – Work with our third party administrator (TPA) and the internal investment team to properly maintain our 401K plan.  Coordinate annual retirement program audit with 3rd party.
  • Fully Leverage our ERP System – Our ERP system, Microsoft Dynamics AX, is the backbone of all operations.  You will play a critical role in insuring that both the Accounting Department and the organization leverage it properly regarding all financial information.
  • Data Driven Decision Making is Required – Strong use of data to accurately analyze performance and make decisions / recommendations.  An ability to parse through data and select the most relevant items to report on and communicate to other business leaders.

  • BA/BS with significant coursework in Accounting or Finance is required
  • Significant coursework in Information Systems is a plus


  • Minimum experience required for this position is
    • 5 years of Senior Accounting / Finance Leadership is preferred
    • Experience as a Controller or Assistant Controller is preferred
    • Traditional Direct-to-Consumer Operations preferred but not required
    • Experience managing multiple profit centers preferred but not required

Technical Skills

  • Full knowledge of GAAP principles
  • Experience with electronic banking (ACH debits and credits, wire transfers in foreign currencies, fund transfers, etc.)
  • High level of comfort with IT systems – exploring software, testing and implementing
  • Knowledge and understanding of, but not limited to, the following software:
    • Microsoft Office, specifically Excel for processing data, creating forecasts, reports, etc.
    • Microsoft Dynamics AX
    • FileMaker Pro
    • ADP

Time Management – the ability to manage one’s own time, prioritize projects and work under deadlines


  • English – must be able to communicate and understand the English language utilizing any and all forms of communication (written, verbal, visual, etc.)
  • German (including Pennsylvania Dutch dialect) – not a necessary job requirement, but helpful in dealing with Amish vendors


  • Must be willing and able to work assigned shift/schedule as defined by supervision based on staffing needs
  • Must be able to provide reliable transportation for self to and from assigned worksite(s). Transportation can include but is not limited to self-transport, car-pooling, hired drivers, horse & buggy, bicycle, etc.  Neither Lehman’s nor Lehman’s supervision is responsible for securing or providing reliable transportation for this position.
